The word of God lately has become more exciting to me, the more I read it, its like I feel like I keep discovering things, even if they are simple or not. One of the things I discovered was concerning a prophesy concerning David, I always saw it as a prophesy concerning the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) but I never realised up till lately that it also includes in it a prophesy that has yet to be fulfilled at Yeshua’s return. Here is the scripture and I’ll do my best to explain my thoughts (bear with the amount to read):
[8] Now, therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel. [9] And I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. [10] And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more. And violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly, [11] from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the LORD declares to you that the LORD will make you a house. [12] When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. [13] He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. [14] I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, [15] but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. [16] And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.’” [17] In accordance with all these words, and in accordance with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David.
(2 Samuel 7:8-17 ESV)
.
Its the first few verses that stood out to me, if you read verse 10 – 11, it says that
1. God will appoint a place for His people and plant them
2. They will dwell in that place and not be disturbed no more by enemies, they will have peace from their enemies.
3. This rest from enemies will happen from the time God appoints Judges over Israel.
.
The reason these things stand out for me, is God is saying he will appoint a place for his people when they are already in the promised land(1)… why would God say that when they are already in Jerusalem? and what does he mean? The second thing that stands out to me is that they will not be disturbed by their enemies any more(2), this means that the people of Israel will have peace forever from their enemies but as it is, Israel has never had this peace. The last point is that God will appoint Judges over Israel (3), think about this, judges??? isn’t judges what Israel had when they first moved into the land of Israel? and since David there have been no judges that God has appointed over Israel… As I read this I thought of revelation, lets have a look at what it reads and consider it in comparison:
.
[4] Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. [5] The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. [6] Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.
(Revelation 20:4-6 ESV)
Have a look and compare them, is this the fulfilment of the prophesy to David? I’m not really able to explain this too well, but have a think over it, its too late at night now… zzZZZzzzzz
